Introduction

Quite often when listening to music on YouTube, I just let the music play and allow the app to decide the next song. It always surprises me. That’s exactly how I stumbled upon the song “What You Saying” by Lil Uzi Vert, a track that later reached number 1 on the Hot Rap Songs chart.

After playing the song a second time and watching the music video carefully, my mind was blown away by how smart Uzi was — not only for sampling the song, but also for creating such a creative music video concept.

To be honest, I had never really listened to much of Lil Uzi Vert’s music before this. But after watching the “What You Saying” music video, I became very impressed by the creativity poured into the entire project.

The “What You Saying” single is catchy, different, stylish, and creative. It proves that Lil Uzi Vert is not just a rapper, but also a cultural influence, and here’s why.

Sampling and Inspiration behind the song

One of the smartest parts about “What You Saying” is the sampling. Lil Uzi Vert sampled “Love Story” by Indila, which was already a beautiful and emotional song loved by many people around the world.

Turning “Love Story” into a rap-inspired song was definitely a bold move. Many artists would have struggled to make it work, but Uzi surprised fans and delivered something fresh and exciting.

This is one of the reasons why the song became so popular online. Many content creators started using “What You Saying” in edits, TikTok videos, reels, and fashion content across social media.

The beat is smooth, emotional, and addictive. Even people who never listened to Lil Uzi Vert before found themselves replaying the song over and over again.

Why the Music Video was so smart

The music video for “What You Saying” is honestly one of the smartest rap music videos I have seen in a long time.

In the video, Lil Uzi Vert is shown as a fashion designer working on a brand-new clothing collection. Throughout the video, famous fashion personalities and models praise Uzi and speak about him as if he is one of the biggest designers in the world.

Supermodel Adriana Lima calls Uzi a fashion icon. Fashion agent Kyle Hagler says Uzi is “a movement in culture,” while legendary designer Marc Jacobs says the collection is going to be “fire.”

The music video concept was a genius idea because it mixed fashion culture with rap culture in a funny and creative way.

The music video continues by showing designers, stitchers, and workers preparing the collection for a big fashion runway event. While all this is happening, Uzi dances smoothly through the studio. His dance moves match perfectly with the beat of the song, making the video even more entertaining to watch.

The dance itself later became popular on social media, with many fans recreating it online.

One thing I personally loved about the music video was the fake interview sections. The interviews added humour and made the video feel almost like a real fashion documentary. Instead of making another basic rap video with cars and money, Uzi created something unique and memorable.

The Fashion Influence Behind the Video

The idea for the music video reportedly started after conversations between Lil Uzi Vert and fashion creative Ava Nirui. Uzi wanted the video to look like an old FashionTV runway show.

This idea made perfect sense because Uzi has always been deeply connected to fashion. Over the years, Uzi has built a reputation for wearing unique outfits, expensive designer clothing, and setting trends within youth culture.

The video also included major fashion personalities such as:

  • Marc Jacobs
  • Law Roach
  • Adriana Lima
  • Lourdes Leon
  • Lynn Yaeger
  • Andre Walker

Having real fashion legends in the music video gave it even more credibility and made the concept feel authentic.

Fans’ Reactions and Comments

Overall, the song was received very well by fans and continues to trend online today.

Many fans praised Uzi for bringing back a fun and energetic sound. Some people even called the song a “cheat code” because it became instantly addictive after just one listen.

Others said this was the version of Uzi they had been waiting for — creative, fun, emotional, and different from everyone else.

Of course, not every fan agreed completely. Some listeners wished the song had more rap verses and bars. But even those fans still admitted that the beat and overall vibe of the song were excellent.

What Makes This Music Video So Interesting

One interesting thing about the music video is how it almost feels like a parody while still being serious at the same time. Uzi mixes humour, fashion, dancing, and music together in a way that feels natural.

Martin Andrijasevic aka ThatmartinKid, a popular internet personality makes an appearance in the music video, and it’s quite funny. As the Uzitv team walks up to Martin and reaches out the mic to him, Martin tells them there is free water upstairs.

Another interesting part is when Uzi says near the end of the music video, “I don’t even know what she said but this is what I hear in my head,” then the “Love Story” by Indila beat plays. Which is bars. Meaning Uzi doesn’t understand the french lyrics but the beat of the song is all that Uzi hears.

Law Roach, stylist says as being interviewed by Uzitv in the music video, that this season Uzi was inspired by c*nts. There is a lot of confusion around Law Roach words. Is Law referring to the actual word or a fashion designer named Khants? However many believe it’s an ultimate compliment in queer ballroom and fashion culture, meaning high-fashioned perfection, fierceness, and unapologetic attitude. Law praises Uzi’s styling in the music video, for its extreme couture and flawless execution.

Lastly, Uzi end of the music video by saying if Prince was alive, Prince would not have even cared, and would’ve ask who Uzi was. For Uzi to say something like this, just show the humbleness Uzi has.

In conclusion

In conclusion, “What You Saying” by Lil Uzi Vert is much more than just another rap song. It is a creative project that combines music, fashion, humour, and culture into one entertaining experience.

Sampling “Love Story” by Indila was already a risky idea, but Uzi managed to turn it into one of the catchiest and most creative songs in modern rap.

The music video was also a brilliant idea because it moved away from the normal rap video formula and gave fans something fresh to watch. From the fashion runway concept to the funny interviews and smooth dancing, every part of the video felt carefully planned.
